Darryl is a veteran award-winning songwriter & producer. He’s been involved in the music industry professionally since 1980. Darryl attended the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago where he studied jazz piano and electronic music. As a former staff-writer for A&M Records and Warner Chappell Music, Darryl has written and/or produced music for artists such as Michael Jackson, Jeffrey Osborne, Chaka Khan, Earth Wind & Fire, Sharon Bryant, Shanice Wilson and R. Kelly just to name a few. Darryl was also himself a solo artist on Motown in 1987. He’s had several charting singles and a #1 record to his credit. His music has also been featured in major motion pictures.
Today Darryl is the Founder, President & CEO of GameBeat Studios, an established provider of original music production and sound design services for the commercial advertising, gaming and digital media industries. Darryl has been responsible for composing and producing the music and sound effects in some of the video game industry's biggest selling titles, including John Madden Football, Dance Dance Revolution, Nuclear Strike, and Microsoft’s Zoo Tycoon. Darryl's advertising portfolio includes TV and radio commercials for McDonald’s, Wal-Mart, Charmin, Motorola, Burger King, Altoids, Budweiser, Toyota, Sears, The Kalahari Resorts, The Illinois State Lottery and many others. Darryl has won numerous prestigious advertising industry awards for his music production work including 8 Telly awards, 3 Addy awards and 2 Millennium awards.
Darryl has always enjoyed speaking to students, youth and community groups as an advisor, consultant and mentor. He enjoys teaching young people about the music industry, music production and how to minimize the pitfalls and disappointments that are an inherent part pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.
